McCormick-Stillman Park Summer Concert Series 2021

Rock and roll at the Railroad Park is back on track for Summer 2021! Enjoy concerts every Sunday evening with a variety of local bands. Recently recognized as one of the best live music venues in Arizona by Best of American Towns, Sundays at The Railroad Park are the place to be in Scottsdale this summer. With Classic Rock, Retro ’80s, Country, Rhythm and Blues and Retro ’90s, there is a little something for everyone. Bring a blanket or chair and relax in the park. Pack a picnic or enjoy something tasteful from one of the food trucks that will be onsite.

Due to COVID-19 and public health recommendations, the structure of this year’s event is changed to provide a safe and socially distanced environment. The Summer Concerts may look different than it has in previous years, but is intend to create a safe and memorable experience for you and your family. All guests are asked to understand and adhere to all public health protocols.

  • The event will feature a limited capacity of 750 people.
  • 120 8’x8′  marked spaces all distanced 6′ apart that can fit up to 6 people.
  • You are asked to remain within your space during the concert unless you are using the restrooms or purchasing food.
  • Masks will be required for anyone six years and older.
  • Multiple hand sanitizing stations will be available at the rides and throughout the event area.
  • All areas and attractions with potential lines will have social distancing stickers in place.

Gates will open at 5 pm. Wristbands will be given to all attendees. The event area will only be accessible to those who have purchased tickets for that specific concert.

Living in DC Ranch

DC Ranch Tennis Club entrance photoReal estate in the master-planned community of DC Ranch is highly sought after by families, as well as retirees and seasonal visitors.  The 4,000-acre community in North Scottsdale sits at the base of McDowell Mountains, just north of Bell Road and east of Pima Road.  The community was developed by DMB Associates to complement the surrounding desert and consists of 25 neighborhoods within four residential villages that are connected by 33 miles of walking trails:

Country Club Village: Five guard-gated neighborhoods of custom home sites, custom homes, semi-custom single-family homes, attached patio homes, and townhouses.  Custom homes range in size from 3,000-12,500 square feet and the other housing options range in size between 1,800-5,700 square feet.  

Desert Parks Village: Six gated neighborhoods of single-family homes, ranging in style from bungalows, ranch-hacienda style, or southwestern style.  Homes range in size between 1,740-5,170 square feet and have one and two-story options.  Each neighborhood has its own park to enjoy.

Desert Camp Village: Eight neighborhoods of single-family homes and townhouses that range in size between 1,650-5,000 square feet.  Both one and two-story options are available. 

Silverleaf Village: Eight neighborhoods with three 24 hour guarded gates.  The most expensive homes in DC Ranch are located here and housing options include luxury villas, to custom estates on a third to over ten acres.

Within the community, there are three shopping complexes with upscale retail stores and restaurants: Market Street, Canyon Village, and DC Ranch Crossing.  There is even a fire station located in the Market Street complex! The community is within Scottsdale Unified School District, with children attending Copper Ridge for Kindergarten through 8th grade and Chaparral for high school.  Notre Dame Preparatory High School is a private school option that is only 10 minutes away. 

Living in the Shea Corridor

East Shea corridor connects Scottsdale and Fountain Hills. The Scottsdale City Council declared Shea Boulevard a scenic corridor and set guidelines to preserve the character and development of the surrounding neighborhoods. The communities are very well manicured and protect the natural environment.

scottsdale home for saleThere are several different types of residences available to those who wish to live in the East Shea community: Paradise Heights, located at the intersection of East Mountain View Road and 124th Street offers 175 spacious single-family homes on oversized lots with mature landscaping. Paloma Paseo which is near Scottsdale Mountain, on Shea Blvd. and 136th St. Paloma Paseo has 136 homes, including both condos and single-family homes mainly built by Coventry Homes between 1996 and 1998. Carino Canyon, has 113 single-family homes in a secluded gated subdivision tucked into the base of 136th Street built by Shea Homes. For those interested in townhomes, Villas Verona is a great option and is located on the eastern end of the East Shea community. This community is a gated with 55 “Italian Country Village” style units, all with 2 car garages.

Mayo Clinic and Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital are located nearby. Fountain Hills is a few miles away to the east. There is plenty of shopping and dining options including Scottsdale Quarter, Kierland Commons, as well as Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. East Shea area offers plenty of parks for outdoor activities: Stonegate Equestrian Park, Cholla Park, and Scottsdale Ranch Park with volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball courts, and playground structures.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park just to the west has 40-miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. The Via Linda Senior Center is located on Via Linda next to Scottsdale Ranch and is open to those 18 and over where you’ll find plenty of entertainment options such as classes in arts and crafts and computers as well as a gym.

The A-rated Scottsdale Unified School District with Anasazi Elementary, Mountainside Middle School and Desert Mountain High School are a few of the public schools that serve this area. The very highly rated private Basis Scottsdale is also an option for those students living in the area.

Valley Christmas Light Displays 2020

christmas lightsThe COVID-19 pandemic has canceled some events, but not all! Everyone who eagerly looks forward to Christmas light displays will continue to get their wish this year! Here are a few of this year’s holiday lights displays around the valley.

World of Illumination

The World of Illumination drive-thru parks are located in Glendale and Tempe. They each feature almost 2 million lights that you can enjoy from the comfort and safety of your vehicle. Both shows promise to be bigger and better than ever this year and include great tunes you can listen to as you drive along the routes.

The mile-long Glendale park’s theme is “World of Illumination’s Rockin’ Christmas.” In Tempe, people can enjoy “World of Illumination’s Arctic Adventure,” featuring the 32-foot tall Sunny the Snowman and his pals.

Holiday Lights at Salt River Fields

Celebrate the season with a sparkling 1.2-mile drive-thru experience at Salt River Fields. The attraction features more than 5 million lights that will dance to music you can enjoy from your car, thanks to a designated FM radio signal, or on an electric carriage.

Details: 5:45-10pm daily through Thursday, December 31st. Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, 7555 N. Pima Road, on the Salt River Reservation near Scottsdale. ZooLights

ZooLights is offering two options this holiday season for people to enjoy the millions of lights, animal sculptures and Wildlife Lantern Safari with 66 creatures including peacocks and polar bears: Cruise ZooLights and ZooLights Walk-Thru. Expanded trails and new sights and sounds are featured at the event, and holiday treats like kettle corn and cocoa are available for purchase. The ZooLights Walk-Thru option will be closed to foot traffic on the drive-thru Cruise ZooLights nights.

Glendale Glitters

The popular annual display has been scaled back this year, but there still will be plenty of festive lights to help get you into the holiday spirit. Sixteen blocks in downtown Glendale are decorated with 1.7 million lights. The lights will twinkle every night throughout the holiday season and will include some new designs. Most merchants and restaurants will be open.

Living in Gainey Ranch

There are numerous stores and restaurants within The Shops at Gainey Village, which is walking distance from the neighborhoods.  However, if you are interested in venturing out of the community, nearby is the popular Kierland Commons, Scottsdale Quarters, Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall, and Old Town Scottsdale.  Also nearby is The Talking Stick Resort and Casino (a luxurious Four-Diamond resort) and the Salt River Fields, which is the new spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.  There also are many championship golf courses to enjoy in and around the area.  The Loop 101 freeway is easily accessible and the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is approximately 20 minutes away.
